I don't know if you can consider this player "underrated" or not but Ryan Sierra (@Battleborn) of the Otters is a monster this season, and making a strong case for himself as Defensive Rookie of the Year. Coming in as a rookie to an already dominant front seven that is stacked with talent one would not be surprised to see Sierra under performing compared to the rest of the lineman in the league, and definitely compared to the linemen around him. But that simply has not been the case. Ryan Sierra is playing out of his mind this year as is one of the best defensive linemen in the entire league through week 7. You want a stat? Here's a stat. 8 sacks. Ryan Sierra has tallied 8 sacks through 7 games playing as an interior lineman.
How does he do it? Well, we're not very sure. He certainly isn't very fast, and he is very heavy and very strong. He is able to get off blocks even against very competent offensive line bots and bring down the quarterback for a loss. Against one of the strongest sets of o-bots in Arizona Sierra finished with 3 tackles and a strip-sack which was recovered by his teammate Clegane. Like the rest of the Otters he suffers a bit in the run game and doesn't have more than one tackle for loss. But that speaks to the aggressive pass-rush the Otters employ which allows runners to break free to the outside easily. In a nutshell, Ryan Sierra is one of the best rookies in the NSFL this year and will be a force on the line for many seasons.
