It's hard to pin down one pivotal moment for the Otters as they make their way to their 5th playoff berth this season. If I had to choose one pivotal moment that helped to define, or redefine, this season it would be the discovery that Jordan Yates can run some crisp routes. The first 3 or so games of the season the Otters were off to a mediocre start, tied with the Sabercats and Outlaws for the division lead. And with a big game coming up for week 4 they needed something big to help get back to championship form. That big thing came in the form of the $15m man, Jordan Yates.
The Otters decided to line him up out wide in 3 WR sets and see what he could do, already known for his elite speed and above average hands how bad could it be? Well it turned out to be electric. With Phelps moving into the slot to show off his possession skills having Yates and Westfield as deep threats on the outside suddenly opened up the field and Mike Boss started throwing strikes. The yards after the catch in Orange County were second to none this season, and Jordan Yates was the spark that ignited that inferno. He will most likely end up finishing the season with the most all-purpose touchdowns and be very close to the highest in scrimmage yards, and should be a lock for the pro-bowl.
