I believe that Cordell Joshua of the Kansas City Coyotes deserves strong consideration for DSFL Defensive Rookie of the Year. Despite not being available for the DSFL draft Joshua has worked hard throughout this season to develop his talents and become a key player on a Coyotes team that was defined by a lack of defensive talent outside of several top contributors. Joshua leads the DSFL in tackles for loss with 17 and leads the DE position group in total tackles by a large margin with 55. Joshua has also displayed excellent positional flexibility throughout the season, playing a 4-3 DE role for the first 10 games of the season before proving he could also excel rushing the passer from an OLB spot in KCC’s new look 3-4 scheme instituted by new management. The response to the change was nothing short of incredible, with Joshua tallying a 29 || 4 || 2 stat line in the four games the Coyotes utilized the new scheme and playing a big role in that defense getting noticeably better down the stretch. Joshua has been a great all around defensive player and stopped the run like no other player in the DSFL this season, particularly no other rookie. He will get a shot at Defensive Rookie of the Year and in my opinion entirely deserves that honor.
