Draft day was only a week ago for Cordell Joshua and for a young man who has made a name by being explosive at everything he does, the furore around his selection into the NSFL did not disappoint. It was somewhat well known that Cordell was the man the San Jose Sabercats wanted to bring in with the third overall pick in the draft, seeing him as the man to shore up their defensive line and be a dynamic presence at defensive end, capable of doing some damage and shutting down a team's offensive game. The Colorado Yeti were due to pick second and it was widely known again where they were leaning, with Dwayne Aaron being the clear pick for them. Trade rumours in the hours before the draft began to swirl and it was suggested that the Philadelphia Liberty were looking to make a play and trade up two places to leapfrog the Sabercats and select Joshua with the 2nd overall pick before the Sabercats could get a shot. While Cordell sat cooly in the green room waiting to hear his fate, the Sabercats GMs sprang into action and hammered out a deal with the Yeti to move up one place in the draft. The price they paid was a high one but it ultimately gave the Sabercats their franchise player on defense, the kind of guy who can go some way to taking their franchise from a bubble team to perennial playoff contender over the next few season. Cordell had a big smile on his face as he walked out onto the stage with a Sabercats jersey in hand after being selected second overall and it's not hard to guess why. The franchise made a power play to bring him in, and after a whirlwind of excitement throughout the day, the time for Cordell to prove that he was worth all the cost and effort to his new team soon approaches.
