A calm, confident Haruki Ishigawa approaches the stage, fox ears in his hand instead of on his head. He takes a seat and smiles at the press corps in the room.
“How would you say your season has gone thus far?”
Well, I was pretty public about my expectations for the season this year. I was thinking three wins, with a little luck giving us another one, maybe. Needless to say, I’m ecstatic with how things have gone. I mean, to go into Orange County and steal a victory off the Otters… It was the first time I’ve ever been able to do something like that in this league. I was wrong about my expectations for these guys, and I couldn’t be happier about it.
“What do you think has caused the turnaround for you guys this year?”
To be frank, I think it’s the progress our offense has made. We’re still far from elite on that side of the ball -- I’m confident that that will come with experience -- but they’re no longer taking us out of games where we have a shot at winning. Our defense has continued to perform well, though the statistics are finally bearing that out. Ramero has been a game changer, and Kamaka is only beginning to make his presence felt. Add that to guys like Saint, Bly, Sandoval, and Miller, and we’ve got an absolutely elite unit on that side of the ball.
Sorry, I’ve gotta run and get back to practice. Thanks for your questions, and I’ll talk to you guys again soon!
