The dreaded kicker slump is legend in these parts - kickers gain lots of skill points only to find out that where they're going, they don't need skill points. The kicker slump has already claimed the legacy of one of the greatest and most skilled kickers in the league, Dean Jackson, and forever tarnished it. Jackson's record last season was truly awful, missing two extra points and posting an 81.8% field goal percentage - and it is this fate that I wish to avoid so desperately. Turk Turkleton can also tell you all about it, as another of the league's highest rated kickers. Last season, Turk missed three extra points and only hit 89% of his field goals.
I am coming off the two best years of my career, and I have just recently become part of the upper echelon of skilled kickers in this league. The slump is coming. There is no escape. It has already claimed my first extra point attempt of the season, and I fear it may claim more than that. Dean Jackson is the most skilled kicker in the league - and is known as a catastrophic, inaccurate failure. If I want the legacy of the perfect season to stay alive, I have to avoid becoming the next Dean Jackson.
