The New Orleans Second Line stand not far from a fork in the road. On one side is glory, commemoration and victory. On the other is disappointment, failure and obscurity.
Last year’s Ultimus runners-up come into this season with a lot of familiar faces. Their only new starters are kicker/punter Iyah Blewitt and defensive end Jayce Tuck, a veteran free agent. Their younger players, such as Will Harrison have another year of experience under their belt. Borkus Maximus III is still in his prime as a passer. Coming off of a season where they surprised a few people by shocking Orange County in the first round of the playoffs, anything less than a championship will be a disappointment.
Indeed, the pressure is truly on, as many of NOLA’s key players are S1, S2 or S3 draftees, fighting an uphill battle against father time. If they are unable to get to the big dance this year, and if they get there and fail to bring home some hardware, it would seem that the path will only become harder.
Through two weeks, they led the league in points for and were second in points against. They’ll need to keep doing that, if they want to live up to the pressure of their closing window.
