We all had to start some where and I love watching people start and improve way past my skill level so please keep at it.
I have never used that program nor have I heard of it but if your looking for a good free one, GIMP 2.0 was a great learning tool before I hit PS.

Mainly a 5 for having the balls to attempt it. You have the basics underway, a render that with a "sharpen filter " or tool, could be a decent render. Always make sure to use as HQ of a render as possible for the best results. The blurred background is the right idea, what it lacks though is a lighting source and shading. A soft large white or black brush makes a good one. Also I would like to see the render blended into the background, to make it feel as one image, not a render and a background.
