I’m still pretty embarrassed by my first, and only to this point, investment. There was a company that reached out to me, called “Water Castles”. It’s a dumb name, I know, but they claimed to be a high end sand castle tool company that made their castle sculpting equipment with plastic only taken from the oceans and recycled. A company that made good tools for my favorite hobby AND cleaned the oceans? SIGN ME UP. I invested in their program, figuring my endorsement and money would go to a great cause. I couldn’t have been more wrong. They weren’t going out and getting their own plastic out of the ocean. Instead, they were an offshoot company of one of the world’s biggest fishing operations that’s cleaning the oceans of plastic, sure, but also killing THOUSANDS of fish, sea turtles, dolphins, and any other sea creature that happened to stumble into their nets of doom. So many animals died from these monsters. It taught me to fully research any other company I may consider to endorse or invest in again. (179)
