The most memorable event in Blackford Oakes' life was definitely the time that Connor Tanner decided to mass retire ~TOTALLY ACTIVE AND CONTRIBUTING MEMBERS~ of the league because that fateful decision, that fateful when when all those souls were lost forever except for the ones that weren't lost forever because really only like 3 players ended up retired was a day that would change the life of Oakes forever because the fact that he didn't retire really rankled Tanner and Tanner has decided to dedicate his life to sabotaging, undermining, and otherwise destroying the career of Oakes in revenge which is very reminiscent of the time he bamboozled, cajoled, persuaded, and otherwise coerced extremely valuable members of the league into retiring which was a pretty rude thing to do in my very humble opinion and really the life of Oakes ever since that fateful day has been defined by being constantly on guard against Tanner's Machiavellian machinations but that constant awareness and perception and the constant need to be on his eyes has made him a great football player, well an okay football, well a football player at least which is more than non football players can say I mean if there's one thing that you can say about Oakes beyond all shadow of a doubt it's that he definitely plays football.
