While the “landscape” of the league wasn’t truly changed, the Orange County Otters trading star wide receiver and reigning league MVP Carlito Crush to the New Orleans Second Line may have been the final nail in the coffin for the rest of the league. Crush is currently leading the league in receptions (68) and yards (1011) over ten games, only two of which were played with New Orleans already. Crush joins Borkus Maximus’ high flying circus that already included Law, Leclair, and legendary tight end Paul DiMirio. Not to mention Darren Smallwood is there to do some damage as well. While the Baltimore Hawks technically have the better record, New Orleans decimated them in their only matchup so far (the teams meet again in Baltimore in the final week of the season in a game that may have Ultimus Bowl home field advantage on the line) 38-12, and that was before Crush came along. Ironically, Crush was VERY close to being traded to the Hawks instead, but Baltimore decided to be cheap and grab Carter Bush instead. I don’t think the Hawks expected Crush to go to their main competition for the Ultimus, and instead may now be spending the offseason wondering why they just didn’t pull the trigger on one of the league’s top players. Even if Crush would’ve stayed the rest of the season, I don’t think Hawks fans would’ve minded giving up a pick if it meant being Ultimus Champions. Instead, the Second Line look poised to bring it home to New Orleans. (256)
