One of the more interesting trades made before the deadline in S8 was San Jose sending longtime cornerback Benson Bayley to the New Orleans Second Line. In return, San Jose acquired a S9 1st and two third round picks in S9 and S10 respectively. The Second Line also exchanged CB Terrell Brister to replace Bayley in San Jose. The S9 1st round pick in San Jose would become LB Kolby Deringer following a trade up with the Colorado Yeti. While San Jose is still a rebuilding team, the Second Line rode off of Bayley's talent to solidify their secondary and put themselves in a position to top the best teams in the league. This would eventually culminate in beating the long time dominant team of the ASFC, the Orange County Otters, to advance to their first ever Ultimus appearance. Baltimore was beaten soundly in the Ultimus game, capping off a run which fully signaled the ascent of a resurgent Second Line. It's hard to say if New Orleans could have beaten either the Otters or Baltimore without a secondary player like Bayley. Cornerbacks are a rare sight in the NSFL, so it's unlikely that New Orleans could have found a similar talent in the draft.
