Week 11 saw a very tense matchup between Mat Akselsen, formerly of the Yellowknife Wraiths, and Brad Pennington, formerly of San Jose. The combined reunions, held in San Jose, were handled very differently. Pennington was subjected to boos from the home crowd, as it was heavily rumored that he demanded to be traded away, and was jeered whenever his offense was on the field. As for Akselsen, there was no ceremony or anything for the 2023 Ultimus Champion, but there was a friendly reunion with some former teammates. As for the game itself, Pennington came out with something to prove, passing for 466 yards, a new personal high (surpassing his previous mark of 324), but his old defense knew his tendencies a little too well, picking him off 4 times, only the 3rd time he’s hit that mark. As for Akselsen, he had a fairly limited game in terms of plays called, with only 29 attempts, but that was enough to rack up 288 yards and 4 touchdowns. The veteran QB also showed he had gas in the tank with 6 rushes for 25 yards and another touchdown. He set a single-game performance of 10.73 total adjusted net yards per attempt, the 3rd best game of his career.
