The Pythons came into Season 11 with big expectations after making it to the Ultimini game last season, but falling short. They are hoping to make it back to the championship and come away as winners, and so far they are living up to their expectations. After the first four weeks of the season, the Pythons are the final unbeaten team in the DSFL with a 4-0 record and a league best +63 point differential. It's still early on, but the Pythons have looked like the best team in the DSFL at this point in the season.
The Pythons opened the season at home against the Norfolk Seawolves. They jumped out to an early 17-0 lead before halftime. The Seawolves cut it to a 10 point deficit with a third quarter touchdown, but it never got any closer as the Pythons would hold on to win 24-10. In Week 2, the Pythons stayed at home and hosted the Kansas City Coyotes. The Pythons took another early lead with a 10-0 first quarter though the Coyotes cut it to a one score lead with a second quarter touchdown before the Pythons added on another field goal to take a 13-7 lead into halftime. The Coyotes took their first lead of the game late in the third quarter with a touchdown to give them a 14-13 lead. However, the Pythons responded quickly with a field goal on their next drive and never looked back as they scored 17 unanswered fourth quarter points to come away with a 30-14 win. The Pythons played their first road game in Week 3 as they traveled to Palm Beach for a battle of the final two unbeaten teams. The Pythons had another strong start with an early 14-0 lead but the Solar Bears cut it to a one score game with a second quarter touchdown to make it a 14-7 game. Neither team scored in the third quarter, but the Pythons resumed the scoring in the fourth quarter with a touchdown and a field goal to extend their lead for a final score of 24-7. In Week 4, the Pythons stayed on the road as they traveled to Norfolk for a rematch against the Seawolves. The Pythons struggled to find the endzone early on as they kicked 4 field goals in the first half, though this was enough to take a 12-10 lead into the second half. The third quarter was scoreless for both teams before the Pythons broke out of their red zone struggles with two touchdowns in the fourth quarter to come away with a 26-10 victory. Overall the Pythons have looked very impressive as all four of their wins were decided by double digits.
The Pythons' dominant defense has been the driving force behind their success. They've had the best defense in the league so far as they've allowed just 41 points in their first four games. For context, if you doubled their points allowed, they would still have less points allowed than any DSFL team so far this season. The Pythons' defense's strength is in forcing turnovers as they lead the league with 8 interceptions and with 7 forced fumbles. In addition to their gaudy defensive numbers, the Pythons have also been putting up impressive numbers on offense. With 104 points scored, the Pythons' offense is the second best in the league as they are one of just two teams that have scored over 100 points so far. They don't lead in one particular offensive category but have been putting together a balanced attack with a good quarterback, a strong receiving corps, and two dominant running backs. The Pythons have lived up to their results so far on paper as they have a talented roster that's well balanced on both sides of the ball. It's been a great start for the Pythons so far and they have the talent to keep this strong play up over the course of the season.
