There is one ‘surprising outcome’ that hits closer to every Yeti player, coach, and fan’s heart: the performances of Ryan Applehort and Micycle McCormick. Of course, neither was surprising for people involved with the Yeti, but I’m speaking more of something that surprised the rest of the league.
When former Yeti quarterback Ryan Applehort announced his intention to test free agency and sign elsewhere, many league pundits were proclaiming the end times for the Yeti, who had only just climbed out of the hole that was their multiple winless seasons. How could the Yeti possibly survive without their star quarterback, many asked?
Easily, was the answer. Despite having the best game of his career in Season 10, the Yeti were perfectly fine with letting Applehort walk. In truth, they had no recourse to stop him, but they actually advised him well in advance of the free agency period opening that they did not intend to attempt to re-sign in. In time, the reason was revealed why.
Over the offseason, Yeti kicker/punter Micycle McCormick announced his move to quarterback to replace Applehort. This was the ace up the Yeti’s sleeve. Despite the team’s confidence in the move, many remained doubtful it would be successful. With Season 11 now in the books, however, we can see that Applehort regressed, and McCormick shined (relative to his expectations).
