Playoff Series MVP
Some matches are close. Then you have the games we saw in the first round of this season's playoffs. Looking at the Yeti vs Hawks matchup, there are a couple of players that did really well, notably Owen Taylor, Verso L'Alto or Trey Willie but the player that shined for me was Ryan Applehort. Just looking at his quarterback rating makes me pretty jealous and is a good indicator of how dominant he was during that game. Throwing for 410 wards, scoring 4 touchdowns and throwing just one interception in the playoffs is fantastic but his percentage of completed passes, at nearly 69 % is what really impresses me. You also see sometimes QBs having a great performance during the first half of the game and being a lot more quiet in the second half but I like that Applehort spread the greatness across all four quarters. Also, he managed his game really well, using his receivers as well as his runnerback to gain yards. All in all, it was a near perfect game for him and for those reasons, he'd be my pick for the first round MVP. The Hawks will need this kind of performance in the finals too.
Root for the Underdog
There was little doubt as to the identity of the two teams that would meet in the Ultimus Bowl. The Second Line especially showed that they were the team to beat, dropping only 3 games and scoring a lot more points than any of the other NSFL teams. The Hawks, on the other hand, didn't have an as good season as say the Otters but with their lineup, everybody expected them to bounce back and compete for the title for a second consecutive season. I think the Second Line are the favourites. By far. However, being the defending champions, I believe the Hawks will really put up a fight. They totally destroyed the Yeti in the first round, with a score of 45-7. The Second Line also pulverized their rivals, the Otters, who had an amazing season, a lot better than the Yeti's in fact. Still, I like the Hawks' chances because of their ability to generate offense and to defend against any team. The Second Line won the 3 matches against the Hawks this season but it was always by less than 6 points. Even if the Second Line wins, it will still be an exciting final.
