This last offseason has been huge, likely the biggest and most important one of Kuusela's career. The defensive end from Ohio was drafted 7th Overall to the Baltimore Hawks after an impressive showing with the San Antonio Marshals of the DSFL. Since the draft, Kuusela has worked harder than ever to develop into a force on the Hawks defensive front. He's still rather raw, but he's hoping that he can make an impact from Day 1 as a rookie.
Going into Season 12 Kuusela is looking to cement himself as a starter on the Baltimore defense. Ultimately the goal for this season is bigger than that, as Kuusela is determined to help push the Hawks towards the Ultimus Trophy. Winning the Championship as a rookie would be a phenomenal achievement for the previously overlooked son of Finnish immigrants.
"You know, when I was being recruited by colleges, nobody really gave me a shot. I had a few offers from Group of 5 schools, but most Power 5 teams wouldn't even look at me. Those who did only offered for me to give it a shot as a walk-on. Despite going on to become a starter at Ohio, I was still overlooked going into the DSFL draft, falling into the 6th round. I'm glad to have a team and management that finally saw my worth. Being drafted in the 1st round to Baltimore was a dream come true", Kuusela said.
