It has been a bit of a whirlwind of a rookie season for defensive end Grayson Kuusela. At the Season 12 Draft, Kuusela was drafted in the 1st round by the Baltimore Hawks and signed to a 3 year, $2m AAV contract. However, after playing in his NSFL debut, Kuusela was traded to the New Orleans Second Line alongside running back prospect Aksel Danielsson. The Baltimore Hawks were to acquire veteran safety Blackford Oakes in a win-now move. Since the trade, the Hawks have gone 5-4 and sit in 1st place in the relatively weak NSFC. New Orleans has posted a 4-5 record since acquiring Kuusela, lagging behind the 9-1 behemoths in San Jose and Orange County.
As a starting defensive lineman for the Second Line, Kuusela has had a rather bland statline. Through 10 games the true rookie has tallied 17 total tackles, 7 tackles for loss, and 1 sack. While his total number of tackles and his lone sack are rather underwhelming, Kuusela leads all rookies in TFL with 7, placing him tied for 4th league-wide in that regard.
Going forward, Kuusela should finish the season on a strong note. He's been able to continually develop from a raw true rookie into a serviceable defensive lineman.
