1) IT IS OUR TIME THIS (NEXT) YEAR
The Colorado Yeti have been in a rebuild for the last little bit and while it appeared that they were on the upswing, some new rule changes set them back further than they liked. However, the young players are slowly becoming veteran players who can make significant impacts on the field. The growth of the youngsters is aided by the evolution of McCormick into a superstar quarterback and the continued dominance from his number target, Howard Miller. Miller and Bishop form a potent receiving duo but the management felt that another weapon was needed and they added a talented veteran, Verso L'Alto to the mix. Having a star tight end adds a whole new dimension to this offence that will have opposing defences on their heels all game.
The defence is the weak spot of the Yeti as it is headlined by rookies who will be going into their sophomore seasons and that is a recipe for disaster. Again, management has wisely filled more holes by trading for Blackford Oakes and Brian Mills, two defensive stars who will lead this young team to a playoff berth. Combine that with under the radar acquisition, Axel Hornbacher, and you have a team that is poised for greatness next season!
2) SPOTLIGHT ON THE YOUTH
Looking for an impact player who plays like they have 10 seasons under their belt? Well, look no further than the seasoned rookie, Charlie Trout. Trout has been turning heads all season with his smart plays and tenacity as he led the Hawks to top seed and eventually to a Ultimus berth. While the young man was unable to secure the victory for Baltimore he was awarded the consolation prize of defensive player of the game. It may seem like a minor prize to Trout, it is a herald for the stellar career that the New York product is about the embark upon.
Charlie was touted as a dynamic playmaker from the beginning of his career but we usually expect players to go through an adjustment period but Trout stepped onto the field as a general for Baltimore and made plays all season. The most impressive might be the fact that he was able to lead the league in passes defended as he read quarterbacks eyes all year and made them regret most of their decisions. His impact was certainly felt in the Ultimus and next time Trout finds himself in a Championship game you can bet that he will find another gear and that scares the hell out of us.
3) PRE-GAME or...POST-GAME
This one will go into the books as an instant classic, a tale of two juggernauts who engaged in serious trench warfare. The Baltimore Hawks and the Orange County Otters were both fated to find themselves in the Ultimus before a single snap was even played this season and the two dynamos did not disappoint. Both teams led their conferences and both teams led the league in many statistical categories and both teams put on one hell of a show for the fans around the globe. The top two offences clashed together and provided the kind of show you would expect, they traded touchdown after touchdown to the tune of a combined seventy-two points.
Orange County jumped out to the first lead with 4 minutes left when rookie wideout, Sunnycursed snagged a pass from Showbiz at the three-yard line. The Otters appeared ready to walk into the second quarter with the lead when Gambino found his own rookie, Nagasawa, for a 26-yard strike. The Hawks managed to get an early TD in the second quarter and looked poised to run away with the game but two quick TDs put them on their heels, even the late field goal from 41 yards did not steady them. The Otters found another gear in the second half and scored 21 unanswered points as they won the Ultimus by doubling the score on the Hawks.
