Spotlight on the Youth
Being a defensive player myself, I often look to that side of the ball when I'm picking stand out performers. To me, there was a young guy who really jumped off the page- Charlie Trout. Despite being a rookie, Trout put up numbers that have him in the conversation for best defender of the year, let alone the DROY this season. Charlie put up an impressive 86 tackles and 11 sacks, defended 25 passes, and tossed in several splash plays on the season- recovering 3 fumbles and tacking a safety onto his stat total before the year let out. The guy was all over the field, making his presence felt, and making me wish I got to line up at the LB position more often.
If the Hawks want to return to their championship ways of Season 10- hoping to rise above their 2 season run of being a bride's maid, they're going to need Trout to post repeat performances of his rookie season for several seasons to come. That type of championship level play isn't something Charlie isn't used to- his Portland Pythons captured an Ultimini during their S11 campaign. So now having a taste of a championship defeat under his belt, he'll surely come back more hungry than he already was this season. The NSFL is on notice- this guy is going to be big time.

It's Our Time Next Year
The New Orleans Second Line had a down season in S12, there is no doubt about that. Having not been in the league for very long, I'm not sure if a defending champion team has ever had such a dismal display. With that said- can a franchise that's so esteemed stay down for long? I like to think not. New Orleans' passing attack certainly isn't the factor that kept them down this last season, topping the league with 4732 yards- a 300 yard cushion on second place. That clearly tells us that Maximus III can sling it, and Fyodorovich is still a force- but, it's not just them, with rookie WR Halvorsen th notching 952 yards receiving this season. Needless to say, the passing game isn't going away. Of course, I'm sure many will point to the run game's suffering as a clear indicator that next season is NOT our time. Aksel Danielsson's addition to the squad stands to be something to get the run game back on track, with a ceiling above Gore's, he should represent an upgrade. You toss in the aforementioned pluses with a defense that should look to rebound this season to get closer to their S11 numbers of points against, and we're going to have games going our way again. To boot, with a fair amount of cash to spend in FA, and the 2nd overall draft pick, a further infusion of talent can come quickly. If it all comes together, and we get a little bit of luck along the way, we'll be right there competing for championships again.
