1) IT IS OUR TIME THIS (NEXT) YEAR
It's tough business being a Philly Liberty fan. A team that relied so much on their running game because they had the best running back in the league may lose said player and might therefore need to count on their passing game a lot more in the future.
From that perspective, maybe things aren't so bad for the Liberty. The team can count on two good wide receivers, Carter Bush and especially Jordan von Matt who is very young and improving rapidly. They also have one of the league's youngest quarterback, who is the same age as von Matt, in Adriana Falconi. Even if she had a pretty bad performance in the conference QF against the Yeti, throwing 5 interceptions in one game, she did much better in the rest of the season, throwing only 11. One could also say that S13 was the season where she finally had a good season, not just results you'd expect from a rookie.
I can also mention the arrival of Emondov Emoji at cornerback in a couple of seasons as another reason why fans shouldn't give up on the Liberty.
It's difficult to believe but all we can do at the moment is trust the progress.
2) SPOTLIGHT ON THE YOUTH
Guess it's that time where I have only one day left to complete my Ultimus Week thing and I'll just talk about myself for 200 words because I'm a S10 player and I'm borderline still young.
Well, we all know Falconi didn't affect the Ultimus in any way because the Liberty got eliminated in round 1 again. She didn't do especially great in the Conference semis either, waking up to play football late in the game. But without trying to brag, I think that she could be a factor for seasons to come if the Liberty can finally fix their receivers issues. Falconi had, by far, the best season of her career this season despite having to rely on little outside of Carter Bush and Jordan von Matt. Fortunately, like I mentioned previously, von Matt and Falconi are the same age so if the Liberty can keep them both on board, they could potentially be a great duo for seasons to come and actually affect the Ultimus Bowl.
Other players on the Liberty I expect will influence the outcome of games a lot in the near future are Kulture Fulture, K.J. Becker and Lennox Garnett, who are all fairly young.
3) PRE-GAME or...POST-GAME
I guess most people who made time in their schedule to sit down and watch the conference finals were... disappointed.
On one side you had the absolute powerhouse that are the San Jose SaberCats failing yet again to win a playoff game, as the Otters advanced to yet another Ultimus Bowl and on the other, you had two teams who battled for the first place in their conference all season. Should have been an exciting game, right? Well, no, it wasn't.
The results of the Yeti-Liberty game was probably to be expected because the Yeti have been smacking the Liberty all season, even destroying them 59-0 in week 5 but the most optimistic of us hoped that the playoff spirit would at least help the Liberty give a show. But... well... it didn't happen.
It was still close in the first quarter, with the Yeti leading by only 7 points but it all went to hell in the second quarter. The Yeti increased their advance by 10 points, and by another 6 at the beginning of the third quarter. The Taco Bells finally woke up, with a field goal (yay) but it was too little too late.
To save their honour, the Liberty scored 10 points at the end of the fourth quarter but it was done already and they suffered another early exit from the playoffs.
