QB Matchup:
The Ultimus matchup between the Orange County Otters and the Colorado Yeti presented an interesting quarterback matchup. Both quarterbacks had put together strong showings in the regular season and had helped lead their teams to the championship game. Gus T.T. Showbiz was the victorious quarterback as he passed for 247 yards, 2 touchdowns, 2 interceptions, and a 77 passer rating on 22/36 passing in the Otters' 24-21 win. However, Micycle McCormick also had a solid performance despite the Yeti's loss with 291 yards, 2 touchdowns, 1 interception, and a 84.7 passer rating on 36/54 passing. It's hard to say who won the quarterback battle. McCormick had more yards and had higher passer rating, a better completion percentage, and 1 less interception despite having 18 more passing attempts. However, Showbiz had a higher yards per completion and had the same amount of touchdowns on 18 less attempts and ended up on the winning side of the game. Overall, both quarterbacks put up pretty similar performances. Neither performed badly but neither performed amazingly either, so both performances were overall decent. Both quarterbacks performed below their regular season average passer rating, so credit goes to the defenses for playing strong games and preventing this game from becoming a shootout as it could have been much more high scoring if both quarterbacks were on the top of their game.
Post Game:
In the S13 Ultimus Bowl, the Orange County Otters once again found themselves in the familiar position of championship game contestant, taking on the Colorado Yeti, who are more known for never winning games during seasons than winning championships. Personally, it was a very interesting matchup as the team that drafted me first overall back in S5, the Yeti, took on the team they traded me to in the Otters. The game itself was a doozy. Colorado jumped out to a 3-0 lead early, and that’s how the first quarter would end. The Otters would get on the board about halfway through the second quarter with a field goal of their own. On their next drive, the Otters would take the lead as Gus T.T. Showbiz found Carlito Crush on a slant route for a 13 yard touchdown and the 10-3 lead. The Yeti would get the last points of the half, however, on another field goal. 10-6 going into halftime. The Otters would take control of the game on the first possession of the second half. Ricky Adams would break free from a would be tackler to score a 24 yard touchdown to give the Otters a 17-6 lead. But the Yeti wouldn’t be knocked out just yet! Howard Miller would break free and score on an 8 yard pass to bring the game to 17-13. After some back and forth play, the Otters looked to have put the game away with 8:40 left when Seer Zepyhrous fell into the endzone and gave the Otters a 24-13 lead. The Yeti would end up getting a touchdown and the two point conversion with a minute left, but they wouldn’t get the ball back and Orange County walked away with a 24-21 Ultimus Victory!
Spotlight on the Youth:
With two aging stars at wide receiver, the Orange County Otters’ biggest young player for the team is wide receiver Sunnycursed. As I say, this is important for the Otters to have a young guy on their offense in that position. I could be writing this from the perspective of being before the playoffs, but I’m not gonna lie and instead I’ll use some stats from the playoffs. Sunnycursed caught a TD, which is the same amount of receiving TDs as star Carlito Crush and more than the other star Tegan Atwell, who’s retiring. This is important to mention because with Tegan Atwell retiring and Carlito Crush, it’ll be important for a guy like Sunnycursed to get his reps in.
Now, throughout the season, Sunnycursed did okay. He got just under a thousand yards. He’s not a rookie, which means he won’t be winning any awards for that sort of thing; but the important thing is that he’s playing and improving. He was helpful in the playoffs and the Ultimus because he got a TD, which is better than a lot of other people who have never even gotten close to the playoffs before, let alone a TD in the playoffs.
Magic Moment:
My magic moment would be when Mason Brown tackled the Yeti Tight End 13 yards behind the line of scrimmage that has to be some sort of record right? Right? Well any way I remember hearing the crowd cheer as it happened and I knew right then and there that we were going to win that fucking game. That was the hype that I needed to get my motor running for that game as soon as it happened I felt this energy run threw my body and I used that for the whole game. I got what 13 tackles and a tackle for loss and they gave the game MVP to Rickey Adams. Come on guys acknowledge me and what I am doing out there. I wanted to get to go to Disneyland. I haven't been there and this is the second year in a row Mr. Rickey Adams gets to go. It was heart breaking but I know how much work Adams puts in to be the dynamic player he is and I am looking forward to many more great seasons with him.
