1) IT IS OUR TIME THIS (NEXT) YEAR - Can be completed anytime
As I've only declared for the draft this year, I can only hope to be fortunate enough to help a team compete for the Ultimus. If not, I relish the opportunity to compete for the Ultimini. I bring fantastic size and hands, with a track record to boot. But this ain't a sales pitch, the tape speaks for itself, and I know I bring value to whoever drafts me. I have dominated at the highest level of competition available to me and I only expect the future to be more of the same, as I continue to master my craft and reach the peaks of wide receiver performance. And it's not just about my individual performance; I elevate others at my position, I elevate the guys I rep against every day. I hold a personal philosophy to honor the bonds I form with my brothers on the field above all else. Each play, my life is in the hands of ten other men, and together we live or die. I intend to never let my brothers die. Pair the unfathomable depths of my desire to be the greatest wide receiver this league has ever seen with my unshakable philosophy that my team is my family, and I have no doubt whatever team places their faith in me will be standing upon that podium at the end of the season, triumphant in the season's ultimate victory.
2) SPOTLIGHT ON THE YOUTH - Can be completed anytime
Seer Zephyrous's contributions to and the whole of the rushing attack by the Otters was the difference in this year's Ultimus. It's not enough to have your starter come out and have an impact, but when you have a talented second back the flow of the game can really be on your side. Seer had enough left in the tank to punch it in from two yards out midway through the fourth, and McCormick's late matching score showed that had Zephyrous not scored, the Otters could not have had the offense to take the lead with only 1:22 left. Sure, it was second and goal, but it was no sure thing Showbiz would complete it on third, having just failed to convert on first down. Seer took it upon himself to be the difference-maker and the four point differential of his efforts was the difference between winning and losing. When the play on the field at other positions is equal, it's effort like this that allows a team to complete their ultimate goal, and without talented role players like Seer Zephyrous stepping up when called upon, the outcome of this game surely would have gone the other way. I expect to see a repeat performance in this year's endeavors.
3) PRE-GAME or...POST-GAME - Can be completed before or after based on choice.
The ASFC Championship Game featured balanced offenses facing off against steady defenses, generating a compelling watch. With half a quarter gone, SaberCats quarterback Joliet L. Christ started the scoring with a twenty-nine yard strike to Kazmir Oles in the first. The scoring would teter-totter, back-and-forth until special teams would make their mark and Adam Anderson knocked in a pair of forty yard field goals in the third. Anderson would add to the winning margin, along with a tow-point conversion following a drive-matching touchdown run by Ricky Adams early in the fourth. The effort was too much for the team from San Jose to match, and in the end, they will have to wait another year to complete their quest for greatness. The Otters, however, advanced to the Ultimus and their dreams of being champions stayed alive. Statistically, the Otters pushed a higher yardage total, but that was about it. The SaberCats offense was able to keep stride, but the field position battle allowed Orange County's special teams to be the difference in this one. My player of the game goes to Adam Anderson, for his clutch 47-yarder with twelve seconds left to put the game firmly out of reach. His third quarter kicks were the only scoring of the quarter, and without him, it is doubtful the Otters come away victorious.
4) QUARTERBACK MATCHUP - Can be completed anytime
I think one look at the stat-line shows how pass oriented the Ultimus was. Micycle McCormick gave a spectacular effort in his attempt to single-handedly win it for the Yeti, not only tossing the pig for over half a benji, but also leading Colorado in rushing attempts and yardage. Of course, having a superstar quarterback comes with a greater advantage when the guys across the field aren't packin' as well. The central coast phenom Gus T.T. Showbiz matched McCormick in touchdowns, lead in average yardage per completion, and nearly matched McCormick's completion percentage and overall rating. He was sacked less as well, which, while a testament to his offensive line, puts on display his pocket presence, as opposed to McCormick's willingness to scramble. And while McCormick generated most of the offense targeting veterans L'Alto and Miller, it was the balanced distribution of the man with the extra T that conjured the salt of his opponents on that day. Ultimately, when a single match-up is that closely contested, the game will sway toward the team more complete in other areas, and sway it did. The rushing attack for the Otters proved effective in tilting the scales in their favor. Will there be another Ultimus as quarterback-centric as this in coming year? Only time will tell.
