(S14) - PT 1 - Draft Day

My draft story was one for the underdogs. Heading into the NSFL draft, I was a rather unknown. I was an undrafted free agent entering the DSFL in the previous year, so scouts didn’t have as much time to spend on me as others. I had come off a solid finish to the DSFL season, but I was still my team’s no. 2 wideout and didn’t have the stats of some others. Because of this, most of the pundits didn’t have me in their mock drafts. I understood this, and decided not to attend the draft in person. Instead, I had a low-key gathering including my family and loved ones, and tuned in to watch.

The first round came and went and my name wasn’t called. No big deal, I didn’t really expect to, all the players in front of me had higher TPE than me. But it meant that every single team had passed on me either by skipping me or trading away their pick. It wasn’t all bad, my college teammate Johnny Snuggles was drafted no. 1 overall with the Wraiths, so I was happy for him.

When the second round came along, I was surprised when my name was called! Some of the pundits on the broadcast were shocked and had no idea who I was. I was excited to hear from my GM, coach, and to reunite with Snuggles. Little did everyone know that I would be the steal of the draft, now moving from #13 in total TPE at the time of the draft, all the way to #5 in one season, and being the reigning DSFL WRotY.
