It is game day morning and the butterflies are persistent. No matter how many football games I will ever play in my life I will always have butterflies on the game day morning. It is as certain as having four seasons and it is something I will never be able to alter. In the early morning I have to have a hearty breakfast consisting of four eggs, six strips of bacon, a pound of shredded hashbrowns, four sausage links, fruit, and a large cup of orange juice. It may be specific but it's part of the routine that has gotten me here today so why change? I am a superstitious person and it goes as far as to what I eat. Once I get breakfast out the way I get some final film study in as well as study our game plan for the upcoming game before heading off to the stadium.
Once at the stadium I don't talk to anyone during my warm ups. I put my apple airpods in and jam out to a game day playlist I created consisting of a heavy rotation of rap. Artists such as Childish Gambino, NF, Just Juice, Joyner Lucas, Drake, Rae Sremmurd, Logic, and others. It is the same songs over and over but it's part of my routine and it will likely never change. Once I get my stretching in, get my sprints and agility in, and get my technique work done I head into the locker room to relax and get focused up on the task at hand. I don't get out of my seat until it's time for the National Anthem and then I sprint onto the field to get that last bit of warm up in before I have to go out and start defending wide receivers. Kickoff happens. It's game time.
