The fact that there isn't an NYC tri-state area team in the NSFL is an absolute abonomination - the most populous area in the United States doesn't have a team but little ol' Yellowknife does? Therefore for the new expansion, I would propose a team known as the Garden State Bolts. Named after the great advancements in electricity made by Thomas Edison and others in Menlo Park, NJ, this team would not only cater to the NYC market but also serve as part of the fledgling rivalry between NYC and the Philadelphia area, and even serve as a nearby rival to the Baltimore Hawks.
For team branding, the Bolts will take the colors of New Jersey - buff and Jersey blue, as seen in our terrible state flag which so badly needs a redesign. Does this conflict with both the Liberty and Hawks? Sure, but that's besides the point for now, we're just having fun here
The mascot of the Bolts will be the state bird of New Jersey, the goldfinch. Its bright yellow feathers will correspond well to the electric nature of the team, and makes more sense than banana hawk in terms of its color. The team will play home games in the growing city of Edison, NJ, a thriving hub of innovation and immigration, all while only being a short train ride from the city.
Ultimately, the NYC area needs a team, and a New Jersey team will fulfill that need while also giving the league access to the biggest market in the country.
