1) Playoff Predictions, Reviews:
Tijuana Luchadores vs Portland Pythons
The conclusion of season 14 of the DSFL found two very unlikely opponents matched together for the Ultimini. The first being the Tijuana Luchadores, a team heavily picked to lose up against the regular season champions and favorites for the Ultimini, the San Antonio Marshals. Though, through the combination of a stout defense effort and a MVP-like showing from Tijuana Running Back, Forrest Gump; The Tijuana Luchadores managed to upset the 13-1 San Antonio Marshals. The second team that was featured in the finale of season 14 was the Portland Pythons, a team that was almost upset in the playoffs by the 6-8 Norfolk Seawolves. After playing excellently over the regular season the Portland Pythons were first tasked with defeating the Norfolk Seawolves if they wanted any chance to continue on for the Ultimini. Though being the worst team in the playoff the Seawolves still had some excellent defensive players including the newly acquired Ryan Leaf Jr who racked on a key fumble while the Pythons were driving into the Seawolves redzone. Adding to the impressive defensive effort which held the Pythons to 3 total points through the first three quarters, stunning the world. The only touchdown the Python would score would be from a pick-six in the fourth quarter from Python Corner Back Grievous G. This would prove to be enough as the Pythons barely scrapped passed with a 16-13 win. Though in the conclusion of this playoff series it would be the Portland Pythons being the first team to strike with Portland Running Back Rkansaw diving into the endzone for a 4 yard gain putting the Pythons up 7-0 with 8:39 left in the first quarter. The Luchadores were quick to respond after Tijuana Linebacker Slothface picked off Franklin Armstrong at the Python 16 yard line. Immediately followed by a 6 yard run for Forrest Gump tying the score at 7-7. Almost instantly after, Armstrong is picked off again leading to 3 more points being chipped on for the Luchadores. To close out the half the Pythons add on two field goals from Portland kicker Dasistwirklichseinnachname ending the first half at 13-10. The Luchadores were able to start the half out quick in due to the third interception from Franklin Armstrong. The Luchadores weren't able to capitalize though with a touchdown, settling for just a field goal. A bit shaken from the third interception the Pythons managed to rebound and score after a 20 yard pass to Running Back Rkansaw leaving the score at 20-13. After driving down the field with 1:48 left in the third quarter Tijuana kicker Harris Jr in heartbreaking fashion missed a 31 yard field goal signaling the end. With only 1 quarter left to play and needing points it proved to be a fatal blow for the chances of Tijuana wining the Ultimini. The Pythons didn't let up, upping the score to 27-13 after a 8 yard pass to Catchyman. The Luchadores though weren't going out without a fight with Forest Gump leading the charge with an 94 yard Kickoff return, and with the help of Zoro Rorona with a 1 yard dive the Luchadores managed to get back into the fight at 27-20. In the end this attempt proved futile as the Pythons drove down the field ending with a 9 yard touchdown pass to Catchyman to put the nail in the coffin.
And even though the Luchadores attempted a final comeback, the drive stalled out on Portland's 16 yard line. Leaving the Portland to just run the time out and celebrate over their victory; ending a suprising playoff series, finished with a back and forth battle between two closely paired teams that little expected would both be there.
