Playoff Predictions: Review
The Ultimus Bowl finals was between the Philadelphia Liberty and the San Jose Sabercats. I don't really know who was figured to win this game going into the finals, so it's hard to say if someone was the underdog or not but let's do a quick recap. The game opened with an early field goal by Kulture Future, which was then later answered by Neo Donaldson. Donaldson made another field goal in the start of the second quarter to give the Sabercats the lead before Bucky Barnes made a great pick six to bring the Liberty up the field and score a touchdown. Fast Bojia then ran in a touchdown to give the Liberty a healthy advantage before Neo Donaldson nailed another and Xavier Flash caught a touchdown of his own. Donaldson then made his fourth field goal of the day before Zapp Brannigan made a touchdown pass. Jordan von Matt made a touchdown reception to keep the Liberty in the game, bringing the score to 24-26 in favour of San Jose. But the Sabercats weren't done yet as Neo Donaldson nailed another field goal and Chris Orosz ran the ball in to gave the Sabercats the Ultimus Bowl win.
All about the QB's
So quarterbacks get a lot of love even in real life and I'm gonna give them even more love now. So in the Ultimus final we had two quaterbacks playing, Joliet L. Christ and Adriana Falconi. Looking purely at the stats, I think the quarterback who had the better performance in the finals was definitely Christ. Despite not having the same volume of plays where he threw the ball he did really well when he was able to let loose the cannon and really helped vault his team to the win. Throwing two touchdowns and only one interception in the game also gave him an edge in points scored for his team, and he really shone all game. This isn't to say that Falconi didn't do well too, because she was really great, but Christ just looked awesome out there. If we compare receiving talents that these guys had as well, I think Christ definitely had the upper hand which might be why he succeeded so much. If it came down to the talent on the receiving end, I think maybe Falconi would have won this match up but the Sabercats were just better built when it all ended, and they took the win.
Spotlight on Youth
Okay so the big performer in this game was definitely Fast Boija. In his rookie season he did really well, and he came up to the Philadelphia Liberty and was a big performer in the final game of the season. Despite only having ten attempts he put up 30 yards and had a really important touchdown which helped his team win, and I think without him this game would have been a lot further apart. Even though thirty yards isn't really all that good, it still definitely helped out the Liberty, and took some of the pressure off of Falconi to lead the team by herself. Ryland Morley was another guy who was a rookie in this game, but he is a defensive line guy and didn't have a very big presence. When it comes down to it I think that running backs must just peform really well out of the gate, or maybe Boija was better prepared coming into this game, because honestly he rocked it. Scoring a touchdown in the Ultimus Game that could have swayed the score towards a win must have been an awesome feeling, and I think Boija definitely takes the cake on top youth performance for this game.
Enemies
So I'm not in the league yet but I can choose a player that I want to be rivals with and that is Dermot Lavelle Jr. because he is currently the other top corner back prospect in this draft class. He's a good earner and is a recreate so I will probably have trouble beating him in terms of where I go in the draft, but I think the two of us should have a good rivalry for years to come. We both play zone defense for our archetype, but I think I take the win in terms of actually playing that position because he likes to tackle more and I like to intercept the ball more. I want to be a guy that my team can depend on to make interceptions and score points and I think Lavelle just wants to be a part of that defense. I think kick returning will also be something I want to do a lot of, and with my speed I will be better than Lavelle without any questions asked because I'm going to be able to dart around the slow defensive guys using my agility and speed and shouldn't drop the ball because I have good hands too. I think this will be a good rivalry for sure.
