When Nero Alexander received the call that he was being drafted in the first round by the Yellowknife Wraiths, money was the last thing on his mind. He immediately started thinking about how to help his team win, which meant he was willing to take a relatively small contract ($7 million over 3 seasons). Obviously, while small compared to some of his peers, this is still a huge amount of money and would be life-changing for Nero if he hadn't already earned millions from his media empire.
He decided to use his new $3 million rookie salary to settle into his new city. In Yellowknife, housing is very cheap because there are no people who want to live there. Once he had locked down his extravagant, yet surprisingly inexpensive, apartment, he decided to join his new teammate Ryan Leaf Jr in his philanthropic efforts. He donated $1 million to local food banks and homeless shelters to make sure that, like the Wraiths, no citizen of Yellowknife ever freezes. He also purchased several hundred dollars' worth of Tim Hortons donuts and coffee to give to those in need in the local community, because he was new to Canada and didn't realize that Tim Hortons is actually pretty shitty. Nero looks forward to continuing to grow as a part of the Yellowknife community!
