Kolby Deringer started to sit down and at least thing a prolonged time about life after football. It started in a subtle way a bit after the SaberCats' Ultimus loss. Went out for a run and could feel he was a little more winded than usual coming back. Could just need a bit more training and he'll be fresher again, though he's been at this for quite a few years now. Started really hitting him in light of how he had seen older players from his rookie year fall apart around this point. Some aged better than others, though guys who started falling off then are gone now.

He's that guy now to a few rookies. The existential crisis was quite humbling, considering it's a small signal of the end. All the more reason to get after it now. Being atop the mountain once shouldn't be enough yet. Players only get one chance to play. Fond reflection is for when you're long past the point of realization that you can't play anymore.
