Before he was swapped to a defensive tackle, before the Season 14 DSFL draft, and even before the 87 yard touchdown, Ryan Leaf Jr was the star quarterback at Washington State university. The year was 2025, Leaf just completed his entry exams and walked onto the gridiron, and put on his jersey, No. 16 just like his father, a bright future was ahead for the young gun in training. Briefly, The starting QB for the team was his future rival, Rose Jenkins, who led the team to a PAC-12 title a year prior, but transferred due to certain scholarship opportunities. Leaf quickly took the starting role for the Cougars, pushing them to a 11-4 season, and making them enter the Rose Bowl, in which they easily defeated the Ohio State Buckeyes by a score of 56-13, As Leaf threw for 642 yards and 7 touchdowns, and a rushing touchdown.
Scouts noticed the speed of Leaf and his ability to read the defense and determine what formation and play that they’re doing, and what Defensive Line threats were there. Eventually, An ACL tear would put him out for the 2028 season, but rebounded in 2029 when he won the Heisman Trophy after throwing for 6,000 yards and 75 touchdowns, both were NCAA records that were his to keep, and allowed to participate in the DSFL prospect bowl, and that’s where I’ll end the story.
