Unlike most high end athletes competing in the NSFL and DSFL Mervin Leonard never attended college and was actually a high school dropout. Instead of going to college Mervin did what everyone wishes they could do and that's follow his dreams - and for Mervin his dream was to become a Subway Sandwich Artist. At the age of 18 Mervin drove all the way from his hometown of Tuktoyuktuk in the Canadian Arctic to Los Angeles, California - a distance of over 5700 miles - to pursue his ultimate dream. Unfortunately for Mervin upon arriving he applied for a job at three different Subway locations in LA and was rejected all three times due to "lack of job experience and lack of credible references". So, with his ultimate dream now dashed Mervin returned to Canada to play football or the Kamloops Broncos of the CJFL and fell in love with the game of football. Mervin then lived out the remaining years of his "college age years" working as a sheet metal roofer, crushing beers, ripping cigs and occasionally playing football before randomly one day getting a call from the Portland Pythons asking if he'd be willing to play for them for a salary of 5 Million dollars - Mervin agreed as 5 million dollars was more than the $18.50/hr he was making roofing.
