Mako Mendonca went to college simply expecting to learn and have a good time, with no thought of becoming a professional athlete in the great league in the world. This all changed when he went to Rice University in Houston (from Greenwich University in London) as part of an exchange for a year.
At Rice U Mako happened to live next door to a couple of football hopefully, twin potential offensive linemen called Curb and Ishley Allen. He got on well with the brothers and decided to join them when they attempted to join the Rice U Owls as walk ons in the autumn tryouts. It was here that Mako talent was noticed and he started his apprenticeship on the Journey to become the best pass catching running back the world has ever seen (a journey he is still on now in the NFSL).
It wasn't all plain sailing at Rice U for Mako, his first year was spent learning the game, and he had limited snaps, being used more as a punt and kick returner. He also had to kick his heavy drinking and bad diet to the side as well, but with the help of his coach and encouragement from his family (especially uncle Clive) he was able to spend his college years shaping himself into the fine specimen that you see today.
