1) I'll be doing a write up of one of the two ASFC Quarterfinals match up this season, namely the one between the Arizona Outlaws and the San Jose Sabercats. Heading into the game, this was certainly looking to be an interesting matchup, as both teams had maintained the same record of 7-6. In the first quarter, it was looking to be all Arizona, as they managed to get a pretty quick field goal on the board, followed up by a 20 yard run by Zephyrous for a touchdown, taking their lead up to a margin of ten. Their hot streak continued throughout the second quarter, as they managed to bulk up their lead to a whopping 24 points within the first four minutes. In the third quarter, it looked like the Sabercats were gaining momentum as they scored a second touchdown, and reached their closest point in the game, being down only 13 points (27-14). That being said, Arizona continued with the offensive firepower they were able to bring all game, and finished off San Jose with a crushing 41 - 21 final score. This game was incredibly interesting, as just looking at the team stats, one could easily assume that San Antonio would have one. They had a much better 3rd down efficiency, and were only one yard short of Arizona in total yards. They held the ball for only 14 seconds less, but had a much higher efficiency quarterback in Joilet L. Christ.--Arizona was able to mitigate this with a much more solid run offense, who were able to gain an average of 5.2 yards per rush.
2) The Quarterback matchup for the finals of the playoffs was exceedingly interesting this year. The two teams competing for the Ultimus this season were the Philadelphia Liberty, who were led by Adriana Falconi, and the Arizona Outlaws, who were led by Andrew Reese. Neither team was dynamite on offense, and saw steady, if not below average, contributions from their quarterbacks. Falconi had a very quiet night, putting up a modest 236 passing yards, and only contributing 1 passing TD to their team's efforts. On the other side of the field, Andrew Reese had a much more sporadic game--but ultimately one that got results. With a similar yardage total to Falconi of 256, Reese was able to make things happen, contributing 3 touchdowns total to the Arizona score. That being said, with also throwing two interceptions, Reese gave ample opportunities to the Philadelphia team to try and capitalize on good field position. Luckily, in what came down to a game of whose quarterback can score more (although arguably Arizona's rushing was the difference maker), Reese was able to throw more touchdowns than interceptions that Philadelphia could capitalize on, and won the day because of it. Ultimately it was interesting seeing two formidable quarterbacks duke it out.
3) (/s) I think the team that I actively root against the most would be none other than the Philadelphia Liberty. It doesn't make sense to me how they can make it this far in the physical arena of American Football when their mascot is a bell. Sure, maybe defensively that offers some redeeming qualities, but they have resigned themselves to never being able to make a move on offense. Just imagine a couple choice matchups--A bell versus a Butcher, who is presumably a human? Bell can't move, butcher has hands. Win for Chicago. Okay let's move it to the Bell's wheelhouse and have it go against the Second Line. Full band versus single band? Sorry Bell, you lose again! Now let's get interesting and go to this season's Ultimus matchup, which saw the Philadelphia Liberty (Bell) versus the Arizona Outlaws (Outlaw). Now, sure the Bell is most likely resistant to whatever firearm the Arizona Outlaw is carrying, but other than sit there and be largely unaffected by its shot, what else can it do? Maybe the Outlaw isn't as hefty as a butcher, and can't move the bell on his own--well outlaws most of the time travel in bands or gangs, so surely as a group effort they could figure it out, or apply dynamite at their leisure? Sorry Philadelphia--your mascot just isn't ferocious enough to survive the NSFL in a reasonable manner.
