Review:Butchers v. Hawks (Hawks Win: 40 – 6)
This first round playoff game saw the Chicago Butchers play against the Baltimore Hawks. This game promised to be exciting, with Chicago being a successful new team, while Baltimore looks to cash in on their Ultimus window. However, the game would never be close, as the Hawks would go up 26 – 3 at the half. While the Hawks took their foot off the petal in the second half, the game would end 40 – 6. The Hawks dominated on both defense and offense. Chicago would go just 4 / 20 on third downs, and have less than 300 total yards on offense. They would average 5 yards a pass and 3.3 yards a rush. Baltimore on the other hand would go 3 / 13 on third downs, while averaging 7.5 yards a pass, and 5 yards a rush. Chicago did manage to lead the time of possession that was not able to help them. Havran did throw 2 interceptions, but that was not enough to help the Butchers overcome the Hawks. Hawk RB Vander would rush for 100 yards and three touchdowns, showing the importance of Baltimore’s midseason trades. Jimbo would add another 50 yards and a TD. Maddox would have a good game at WR, going for 113 yards. For Chicago, RB Torenson would reach 75 yards on 20 attempts while WR Oles would reach 86 yards receiving. The Hawks managed 4 sacks, while Chicago managed two.
2) Underdog

The Tijuana Luchadores are preparing to go on the road to Portland to compete for the Ultimini. They are a definite underdog, and just 2 games previously had lost in Portland by one score. However, this game is not a sure victory for the Pythons, as Tijuana has a great chance of upsetting the arrogant snakes. Last time Tijuana played Portland, Python QB Cue threw 3 interceptions, a poor performance from him. If the Lucha want to win the Ultimini, they need to continue to punish Cue for his mistakes. Cue has been one of the top QBs of the DSFL, and the strong Lucha secondary need to take advantage of any mistakes he makes. The Lucha also need their own QB McCann to limit his own mistakes, as he threw an interception last time they played. If McCann can limit his mistakes, and the great duo of Donut and Osborn can show up, Tijuana should have a great chance of upsetting the foolish snakes. The Lucha are lucky that the snakes have a shallow receiving group, with Donut and Snake being the only dangerous threats on the receiving group. The Lucha need WR Jake to continue doing what he does best, making drops. The Lucha need every advantage they can get in this game, as they look to avenge their previous loss.
Rivalries

The Portland Pythons finished their season 11 – 3, cruising to an easy 1st place finish in the NFC North of the DSFL. They won each of their preseason games, and started the season 4 – 0. They seemed invincible. However, this is not the case. The Portland Pythons are overrated. The Portland Pythons had the best Points For / Points Against in the DSFL. The Portland Pythons had the best record in the DSFL. Their QB tie the record for TDs. Despite all this, they are overrated, and will fail in the playoffs. Why is this? This is because they have Jake Dropson on their team. Jake was a second round draft pick who was immediately traded from Tijuana to the Pythons, but to Portland’s detriment. Dropson would have only 449 yards and 6 TDs. In the Pythons’ biggest game of the regular season, he only had two catches. When Jake challenged by Tijuana safety Joseph Wozniak he declined to release a response until his team had won the big game. Perhaps Jake is only willing to trash talk when there is no risk of being exposed. It is Jake’s chance to prove his doubters wrong in the playoffs, but there is great doubt if he will be able to contribute to his team.
14) That Magic Moment

One magic moment of the Tijuana Luchadores playoff run was Wayne Howyanow’s pick – 6 against the San Antonio Marshals. The game had promised to be a good one, as Tijuana and San Antonio had already played a hard regular season series against each other, with Tijuana taking it 2 – 1 -1, however San Antonio’s sole victory over Tijuana was a crushing victory. During the second quarter the Luchadores were already down 10 – 7, but they were driving down the field. The Luchadores utilized their strong running game during the drive, as they at one point rushed 7 times in a row. The Luchadores converted 3 third downs during the drive, getting to the redzone, at 1st and goal. On the 16th play of the drive, on 3rd and goal, Louisiana Purchase intercepted a McCann pass to Bender Rodriquez, a crushing blow for the Luchadores. However, the Luchadores hopes were not dashed, as just three plays later safety Wayne Howyanow intercepted a McMahon, and returned it 29 yards for a touchdown. The Luchadores would reclaim the points that they had surrender on the endzone interception. While the Marshals would be able to score a field goal before the half ended, the Luchadores went into the second half up 14 – 13. The Luchadores defense would tighten during the second half, holding the Marshals to 3 yards, while the Luchadores would score 10. Winning 24 – 16, the Luchadores would advance to the Ultimus, and San Antonio would have their hopes crushed again.
