1) Playoff Predictions:
It may be a new season but after tonights huge win it's going to be the same old Championship game between the Wraiths and Otters. I've been a part of this forum for four seasons now and this will be my fourth straight championship game...hopefully the first one I actually win!! Both teams finished the regular season with 9-4 records both led by outstanding QB play by Cooter and Franklin respectively. The Otters boasted the top defence in the league this season giving up 243 points over their 13 regular season games. Cooter Bigsby lit the league up this season throwing for an impressive 4000+ yards this season while Armstrong put together an equally impressive campaign throwing for 24 tds and only 9 interceptions. The Otters run game was also once again a force to be reckoned with this season behind all-star Apollo Reed while the Wraiths relied more on a running back by committee behind rookies Drake and Hanyadi. Overall I think this game is going to come down to which defence can force the most turnovers and this is a true heavy weight bout in that department. At the end of the day I'm predicting a tight one... final score 21-17 for the Wraiths.
2) Holiday Bowl:
Our first round playoff game this year against Baltimore fell on December 30th at home in Yellowknife and there's nothing quite like a holiday home game for the Wraiths! Since Christmas is over for the year Santa Claus brought down sleigh fulls of elves for the game. The elves (who happen to be quite the busy bodies) decorated the entire stadium during the week leading up to the game making the whole stadium look like a Christmas Wreath. Come gametime the Wraith players were carted out onto the field on lead by the one and only Rudolph the red nosed reindeer much to the excitement of the local youth at the game. During the pre-game speech given by Santa he asked the Wraiths what they wanted for the holidays and they asked for two things : to beat Baltimore black and blue and an Ultimus title. Well, Santa went ahead and worked his magic on the Baltimore game as proof by the blowout win. Only time will tell if the players second wish will come true this year but I have a pretty good feeling. At halftime of the game Mariah Carey was brought in to perform her hit, "All I want for Christmas is You" which brought the crowd to their feet!
8) Scouting Report
I don't follow much of the DSFL anymore since I've gone Pro but I do enjoy reading Media and there's a young up and coming CB that has caught my eye this season playing for the Myrtle Beach Buccaneers. Kacey Dream has been tearing the DSFL up and seems to be on a fast track to winning DB of the year as well as Defensive Player of the year much like I did during my rookie season in the DSFL! Dream has put up incredible numbers while leading Myrtle Beach to a 10-4 record behind the pass defence in the entire league. The kid has 2 forced fumbles, 59 tackles, 8 interceptions, 22 pass deflections and four touchdowns! He has also been incredibly active in the forum racking up an impressive 385 TPE to date. Looking at his TPE breakdown he already has 94 speed which is huge for a young player and he will only continue to improve as time goes on. All I can say is that this kid is an absolute stud and it shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone that I predict he will be an elite corner back in the pros very, very soon. NSFL beware!!
9) Brotherly Love
A solid locker room is the foundation to every successful team and lucky for me the Wraiths locker room is a breeding ground for good vibes. Although I don't interact a ton in the locker room my GM/Teammate Nate Swift aka BigRed holds a special place in my heart. He reached out early in the draft process during my DSFL draft year and quickly became someone I can trust in the locker room and on the field. With Nate Swift being a WR and me a CB I get plenty of opportunity to line up across from him in practice and during scrimmages which only strengthens that brotherly bond. We may butt heads on the field but healthy competition helps breed the the high level of competition the Wraiths have come to be known for under his leadership. Although he is stepping away from his role as a General Manager after this upcoming season (hopefully after an Ultimus Win) he will always be my first NSFL General Manager and a guy who helped me really get my feet under myself in this league. To that I owe him a big thank you and all of my brotherly love. Let's go win this Ultimus!!
