Task 1: Playoff Preview
The playoff game I'm going to preview is the upcoming Ultimini between the Tijuana Luchadores and the Minnesota Grey Ducks. This is techinally the rematch of the DSFL South Championship game between Tijuana and San Antonio, but this time the lights are brighter and the matchup is worth much, much more for both of these teams. Even though the Marshals don't exist anymore, the Luchadores still want to get revenge on the team that ruined an incredible 13-1 campaign last season. This season, however, the matchup likely won't go the same way. Minnesota is a strong team; there's a reason they made it to the Ultimini. However, in the two matchups Minnesota and Tijuana had this season, the Minnesota offense was completely shut down and Tijuana was able to dominate both sides of the ball. If the Grey Ducks are going to find a way to win this ballgame, they're going to need more than just Darrel Williams running the ball 50 times. Zack Vega, who's had a passer rating of under 50 in the past two weeks, will likely need a strong performance just to keep this Ultimini competitive. I think Darrel Williams is better than when these teams last met, but he will have to run like a madman to keep Minnesota in the game and in the hunt for an Ultimini victory.
Task 3: Revenge
The only team that beat Minnesota more than once this season was the Tijuana Luchadores, but since I just talked about them in the task above I will instead talk about one of the more devastating losses in the regular season, the crushing defeat of when Minnesota lost to Kansas City 13-7. It wasn't a blowout by any means, and the defense played well, but when you can only muster 7 points against a bot team you know something is wrong with your offense. This game was not to the fault of Minnesota's offensive MVP Darrel Williams, who ran for 113 yards on 19 carries for a YPC of 5.9 plus a touchdown to go along with that, but it was more the fault of Zack Vega. This might have been Zack Vega's turnaround game; his performances have improved significantly since then. But on that night in Kansas City, there was nothing going on for Vega. He was constantly throwing mallards all over the field and Kansas City took advantage, picking him off four times. It's likely he'll be a capped QB by the time he'll face them again, so look for Vega and the rest of the Grey Ducks to get their revenge against these lowly Coyotes next year. Albeit as I say this if S21 is another /r/nfl year then Kansas City will probably be revived next year and this will be a tough matchup for us.
Task 4: Resim
While I did just talk about this game, it's obvious looking down our schedule that this would be the most winnable game if we resimmed it, so let's talk about the results of a newly simmed Kansas City Coyotes vs Minnesota Grey Ducks Week 9 matchup! To start the game, Vega begins slinging the ball all over the field with a rested Williams not feeling as much pressure to carry the team completely on his back. Minnesota quickly scores on their first drive after a 12 yard Tash Thompson touchdown catch, thrown by a beautiful ball from Vega. The Coyotes lineup and promptly hand the ball off to their workhorse back three times(who actually got 46 carries in the real game with a whopping 2.4 YPC) and promptly punt the ball away. On the first play of the ensuing drive, Darrel Williams zooms out of the backfield and runs his way down the field for a Minnesota touchdown. As the few remaining Coyotes fans trot out of the stadium, knowing that their fate is almost certainly sealed, the KC QB then throws a pick six and lets Minnesota go up 21-0. Wanting to rest Darrel for tougher games, the Grey Ducks coach rests Darrel and tells Vega to start practicing his deep and intermediate throws. Kansas City expects big runs but instead watches incredible bombs rain across the KC field and the game ends with a score of 56-3. Vega finishes with six passing touchdowns and his ensuing confidence leads Minnesota to an Ultimini victory.
Task 8: Scouting Report
Hey! I'm an upcoming draftee for the S20 NSFL Draft! Let's talk about Darrel Williams and his strengths and weaknesses for the upcoming draft and my projected spot for him. To start, let's get the obvious out of the way; Darrel is a very good prospect. He's currently leading the S20 regression class in TPE and is over 40 TPE ahead of the next non-kicker prospect. He's emerged as one of the more well-known players due to a growing popularity on Twitter, a strong game on the field(as he led the Grey Ducks to the Ultimini), and incredible TPE gains during his first full season in the DSFL. Darrel is the favorite to bring home Offensive Rookie of the Year along with likely a RBotY award and possibly even an OPOY award. The biggest question that surrounds Darrel is what role he'll take when he joins a NSFL squad. Running back is a very crowded position right now in the NSFL; and while Darrel does want to stay as a running back, he understands that positional changes are common in the NSFL and is willing to do what it takes to get drafted in the top 5 or higher. I think Darrel has proven that he's ready to join an NSFL squad right now and I can't wait to watch the NSFL Draft live on January 10th. I hope I've done enough to earn the #1 selection in the draft.
