Lawrence Bass wants to win. That’s the most important thing to him; helping his team get to the W. This season he’ll be playing at Defensive End, rather than his preferred Linebacker position, in order to help create some more pressure. The LB core is strong in San Jose, and will be for seasons to come, but Bass’ skillset can easily wreak havoc from the line as well. As far as accolades and records, it doesn’t seem feasible to shoot for any of those this season. But, a broad team goal, that is well within reach, is making the playoffs.
Many people have already written off the San Jose season as a lost cause, but they are going to open a lot of eyes. Their defense has always been incredibly stout, allowing the third fewest points just last season, and it only got stronger this off season. The doubters say that the offense didn’t get any better, because their few offensive selections will be playing in the DSFL again this season. But, it’s been said for decades now: Defense wins championships. Will San Jose win the Ultimus this season? Maybe not. But Lawrence Bass is hell bent on making sure they get an opportunity to dance with the best of them, after week 14.
