When Douglas Quaid isn’t on the football field giving out concussions he ponders philosophical questions. The biggest being what is a true man, a real man? What are the aspects of a real man? To their core a real man should be a father to 2-4 children. Less than two kids you don’t fully feel what it’s like to be a father, more than four means they have to care for themselves too much. You can’t be a bad father and be a man. You must support them financially and emotionally. Our ancient ancestors lived off the land and were completely self reliant. A real man should be able to survive extensive time in the wilderness. They should be able to make a primitive fire using only items the environment provides you, no knife or flint striker. Hunting (spear, bow, or some other projective) and trapping land animals (by using snares) or catching aquatic wildlife with a net or rock dam. Growing up in the incredible Utah environment Quaid’s relatives made sure these wild life survival skills were passed down to him. Being a real man requires serious responsibility. These players who just make their millions to support their own selfish lifestyle aren’t real men in Quaid’s opinion. (208 words)
