To be honest I would much rather write about successful players than unsuccessful ones, it feels kind of mean to talk badly about another player and how much of a disappointment they were, especially since we'll never get their whole story. There are many reasons why a career doesn't turn out as expected and most of it is speculation. Also please be aware that I do not know the player I'm writing about personally.
So the player who I think was quite the bust was Antonio Summer, a running back that was drafted fourth overall in the season 11 draft by the Yellowknife Wraiths. Not only that he was drafted in the first round as a running back, a decision that is controversial among draft experts, but he was the only player in the first round who never made it to the pro bowl. The next two running backs drafted after him, Jerrod Canton and Slim Shady, both taken in the third round, both got pro bowl call ups and in a draft that didn't have the most talent, it's extra disappointing to draft a player who didn't perform in the NSFL. In fact I can't even find any reliable numbers about him in the NSFL. It's like his career pretty much ended after he was drafted.
It's hard to tell where things went wrong. It's like Summer went from an active member of the community who donated his time to good causes like speaking about mental health issues and visiting the local children's hospital to someone who didn't show up to training anymore. Unfortunately I'm too young to remember season 11 but I can see why the Wraiths drafted him at number four and I hadn't expected his career to just fade out like that either. So it's extra sad when a player who showcases a lot of positive character traits turns out to be a bust.
