(S22) - PT3 - Boom or Bust

For this pt I have chosen Maxwell Beard S14 PHI. Beard was the 5th overall pick in the 14th season of the NSFL. Being a pick in the first round typically means you are an exceptional athlete and a promising looking rookie that could not only potentially make a huge impact on the team they are playing for but also impact the league. In general most prospects who enter the league usually want to play in the league for as long as possible but Beard was a very interesting and particular case. Despite being the 5th overall pick beard went inactive right away. This is why scouting can be so important because you can screen athletes that you believe will stay long term and if the Philadelphia liberty had done there scouting properly this could have been avoided by selecting another athlete. On the other hand you truly never know despite doing all the scouting you can potentially do on a player sometimes life throws you a curveball and sometimes you have to call it quits early. I for one cannot speak for Beard but more than likely life just got a hold of him. Eventually Beard would announce his retirement after being inactive for quite a while it was finally official that the s14 5th overall pick was a huge bust.
