The worst draft pick of all-time? To me, that is a difficult one to answer. It would either have to be Ethan Hunt, Josh Bercovici, Romeo Devitt, or Cliff Hamilton. What’s that? You have never heard of any of these guys? Well, sonny, sit down for an NSFL history lesson. These four men all have something in common: They were also quarterbacks drafted by the Orange County Otters during the NSFL’s Inaugural Draft. Orange County took a total of five QB’s that day—the fifth? My fucking dad. The GOAT. Mike Boss Sr was the other Otter QB that day, and he would remain an Otter for life. Ethan Hunt was at least a Pro Bowler, so he’s out of this equation. He was a fine player, but compared to my dad, that is a tough look. Probably the worst pick of all-time would be Josh Bercovici. He was braggadocious and cold-natured to my dad and grandfather. My grandpa has home movies of the first team dinner that the Orange County Otters had, one where players and their families were invited. Bercovici ended up getting hammered and couldn’t resist the red light of a camera. Sometimes when I want to feel angry, I watch that segment of the dinner on repeat for at least 45 minutes. Bercovici is the worst pick in the history of the league because if the Otters drafted someone with talent, my dad could’ve had even more impressive numbers and separated himself from everyone, ever.
