Sweet James-Jones, the NSFL’s Antonio Brown, was picked 6th overall by the Chicago Butchers. A very controversial figure in the league, James-Jones repeatedly publicly declared that he did not want to play for the Chicago Butchers, and he also got into frequent arguments with their GMs. From the history tales I’ve heard, the Chicago GMs also took part in instigating these arguments. You would have never expected Chicago to use their 2nd first round pick in the draft on him, when instead they could have had WR Rayne Gordon who was picked 7th by Yellowknife. This pick was clearly made out of spite, and should obviously have never occurred. SJJ then went on to demand an overpriced contract, asking for 8 million and to stay down in the DSFL or be traded. After countless more arguments, SJJ stormed out of the league. He continued to toss insults left and right on his way out, (his famous line was to tell people to go swallow a knife (also what kind of go to insult is that?)) and was inevitably banned from the NSFL.
This pick had a huge impact on Chicago. First of all, it majorly hurt the culture surrounding the Chicago Butchers. SJJ was extremely controversial even before all of this happened, and him being picked by Chicago made him even worse. And second of all, it caused Toasty to step down from his GM position in Chicago. As evident by the current state of Chicago, this pick had a ripple effect on the team, and is part of what turned Chicago so terrible.
