It’s not unusual that sometimes a drafted player doesn't meet the high expectations of the team that chooses him/her and goes on to find success in another franchise. In that case it would be seen as a bust for the former. One pick that comes to mind recently, which fulfills this criteria happened during one of the most crowded drafts in NSFL history: the Season 18 Draft. At 5th overall, San Jose was looking for a strong start in its rebuilding phase and they selected one of the best running backs in Marcella T?riki to be the central piece of its young offensive group. Immediately called up from the DSFL, T?riki went on to finish her first professional season with 889 rushing yards, 4 rushing touchdown, 47 passing yards and 1 passing touchdown.
Then the worst scenario for the SaberCats occurred: they weren't able to reach an agreement with T?riki just before the start of Season 19 and she left as a free agent who signed later on with New Orleans; with them, T?riki was able to found the performance she longed to achieve. As for San Jose, not only did they let go of a high character player that usually makes an immediate impact, they wasted a first round pick on one season that turned out awful; their plans had to change for the next draft in which they were forced to look for a running back early on the process, with a second round pick used in RB Quindarius Tyerucker. Going back to the Season 18 draft, maybe it was best for San Jose to get a running back like Mathias Hanyadi or Matthew Vincent in later rounds and choose QB Jay Cue as their new franchise player, but one could never know that things would go as bad as with T?riki and them.
