Rashad Hilliard was born and raised in Gainesville Florida by his mother Lilly Hilliard. Hilliard and his sister Sasha Hilliard were raised by their single mother as both fathers were not around. He attended Gainesville High school where he fell in love with football. Football allowed Hilliard to escape his normal day to day life while bettering himself as a player and a person. It also set him up for his future success in life. He started at running back and made an impact for the team starting day one. By his senior season, he posted 2,123 yards on 227 carries and 32 touchdowns which left his career stats 6,779 yards on 942 carries. Hilliard tried his hand at cornerback while in high school although he did not ever see playing time it was mainly to serve as a backup in the case of injury. Before moving on to a successful career at his local college, the University of Florida.
Hilliard did not see the starting job until his Junior year, but he still helped his team by posting big runs in both his freshman and sophomore season. His freshman year he posted 424 yards on a nice 69 carries and 2 touchdowns with his longest run being 68 yards. In his sophomore campaign, he saw the field even less posting 305 yards on 54 carries with 4 touchdowns. This was all a build-up to his breakout junior year where he posted 2,014 yards on 194 carries which were enough to get him into the DSFL draft where he later made a position change to cornerback with the Minnesota Grey Ducks.
