Albert Ruschmann has always been a bit of a homebody, so playing in London was especially difficult for him this past season. Prior to being drafted into the league, though, Albert wanted to stay close to home for school. He had offers from several FCS and Division II schools to play for them. Despite receiving only one FBS football scholarship offer from the University of Connecticut, Ruschmann always wanted to play for his state's university, Rutgers. He would take his chances and walk-on to the football team there.
In the fall of 2035, Ruschmann would attend the first of several open tryouts for the Scarlet Knights football team. Coach Greg Schiano was already familiar with Ruschmann from recruiting and was glad to see him at tryouts. After impressing both current coaches and players, Ruschmann earned a spot as a defensive end on the team. While he was redshirted for the 2035 season, Ruschmann was very eager to get out on the field and show what he could do.
After sitting out for a year, Ruschmann earned a spot in the defensive rotation. With each game, he made the most of his opportunities by generating pressure, sacks, and turnovers. Eventually by his senior season, Ruschmann was voted team captain and was regarded as one of the better players at his position in the nation. From humble beginnings to the national spotlight, Ruschmann remained a homebody nonetheless.
