After a disappointing start to the football season, I was happy to see a request come through for a child’s birthday party. Everyone knows that Sal loves two things: parties and food. As I arrived at the party, the attention was all on me, but my attention was on the food table. I’m not necessarily a kid person. So I had to think quick on my feet. What’s something I can do to make this party memorable but also something I’m comfortable with?
There was a clown blowing up balloons, a bounce house that would explode if I tried to get in, and since to my dismay no beer to help me get loose. After signing autographs, I glanced up to a glorious site. The kid’s dad walked by with a big tray of hot dogs. Suddenly I knew what my purpose was at this party, and what must be done to make sure this party was unforgettable.
There were enough hotdogs for 70 people. I decided to be generous and set my goal for 50. Before singing happy birthday, I gave the kid my cell phone and had him count down from 10 minutes. What he thought was impossible soon became reality as I plowed my way through 54 hotdogs in 10 minutes. The kids was thrilled, the parents were less than because most of them missed out on food.
