If Sir Peter Jackson had not pursued football he would probably still be making movies. It is a lot of pressure when an audience sees your name and immediately thinks to themselves that that is the guy who directed the incredible Lord of the Rings trilogy. How do you follow that up? Let's forget The Hobbit movies exist as those were never a Sir Peter Jackson original and he got forced into the project late. I think my best bet for directing a movie would be something as far from the fantasy setting of Lord of the Rings as possible. The less it can be compared the better. So I'm thinking maybe something in the science fiction side of things, and since Peter Jackson is clearly very good at book adaptations I think a movie adaptation of the Red Rising series would be the perfect follow up to Lord of the Rings. There are already a ton of books in this series, so it's a great place to start and the first trilogy is excellent and would make a great movie trilogy. It would be really cool if the trailers and promotional material could keep the majority of the movie a secret and only use the opening act of the movie as the story. I won't spoil it for anyone that's not read it but there is an incredible scene early on in the book that changes everything you initially thought you knew.
