I highlighted this exact hypothetical in my wiki awhile back, but basically, I’d be a nobody at this point. After my mom had passed away, I was worried that I would not be able to care for my father. There were times where I thought, “this is it, everything you worked for, has led to nothing. And you’re going to be working at a grocery store your whole life.” While not totally dogging on those who have minimum wage paying jobs, for me to work so hard and not get to where I wanted to be when everything started falling apart would be utterly brutal and humiliating. So if I had to guess, I’d be probably a manager at the local Boring grocery store in Oregon. Probably would be raising a family on my local farm, making sure our finances are covered as well as my father’s finances and health bills. After thinking about this hypothetical, I can’t thank the ISFL enough for putting me in a situation to succeed but also to help my family now and for the rest of my career. I will always praise the organization for looking out for the best interests of the league and it’s players. This is why I do what I do now, to play and enjoy the sport I love while being financially cared for. There’s nothing else better than this.
