I have mentioned this before but Cliff Burton experienced a plethora of premonitions that pushed him away from his original goal of playing bass for a thrash metal quartet. In a situation that played out eerily similar to the film Final Destination, Burton saw flashes of his premature death in the weeks leading up to his audition for an up an coming band while in high school. At first the visions were played off as a result of some psychotropic extracurricular activities but eventually became too much to handle. Burton put down his bass and picked up the football instead. From that day on, the visions disappeared.
If Burton had never put down that bass guitar things would have been similar in some regards. Instead of thousands of fans screaming his name after a big time reception or lat game touchdown it would be after a total ripper of a bass solo. Burton’s body would also be battered in different way. Rather than constantly needing tune ups for twisted ankles and constant bruises it would be IV drips for hangovers after days long benders and illicit drugs by the boat load. As far as travel goes life would be almost the same with the major difference of not having to travel to Sweden.
